Who is eligible to file taxes using Credit Karma Tax?
We support the most common tax forms.
This year, there are some limitations to our tax product that you should be aware of. We don’t currently support the following situations:
- Multiple state filings
- Part-year state filing
- Foreign earned income
- State returns for married filing separately in community property states*
- State filing without a federal filing

Do you support joint filing?
Yes, we do! You can file single or joint returns through Credit Karma Tax. We support all of the Federally recognized filing statuses:
- Single
- Married Filing Jointly
- Married Filing Separately
- Qualifying Widow(er) with Dependent Child.
- Head of Household

Can I use Credit Karma Tax if I’m self-employed or own a small business?
We support the forms an individual must file to report income or loss from a small business or other partnership, including:
- 1040 schedule C (sole proprietorship)
- 1040 schedule E (partnerships, estates, trusts, multi-member LLCs, S corporations, C corporations)
- 1040 schedule SE (self-employment tax)
Credit Karma Tax does not yet support businesses that need to file small business forms or businesses that file as an S corporation, C corporation, partnership or multi-member LLC.
Can I use Credit Karma Tax if I'm not a U.S. resident?
Our service is available to U.S. residents who are 18 or older (including resident aliens filing a 1040). We support the situation where a US citizen with a social security number (SSN) is married filing jointly with a spouse who has a Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN).
We don't currently support 1040NR for nonresident aliens.
Can I use Credit Karma Tax if I’m not a Credit Karma member?
You will need to sign up for Credit Karma to use and file your taxes with Credit Karma Tax.
Credit Karma is 100% free, and you get access to your credit scores and reports from two of the three major consumer credit bureaus, plus credit monitoring, insights, recommendations and more.

You can submit your federal return for e-filing now.
Can I import my tax return from last year?
If you used Credit Karma Tax to file your 2017 tax return, we can fill in some info so you get a head start this season.
If you used H&R Block®, TurboTax®, or TaxAct® last year, you can import the information to Credit Karma Tax so you can get a head start.
What if I want to print and mail my tax return?
You can still complete your tax return on Credit Karma Tax. Once you’ve finished your return, you’ll have the option to e-file it or print and mail it. Either way, it’s 100% free (you’ll need to provide your own postage stamp though).
After I file using Credit Karma Tax, can I still access my return?
Yes. You'll be able to access your return on our website and print or save it for your records. Check out this article for more help on how to access your return.
Can I download Credit Karma Tax?
Credit Karma Tax is not available for download but you can access your return online at any time by visiting creditkarma.com/tax. We save your information as you go, so you can come back at any time to continue working on your tax return online.
Can I use Credit Karma Tax on my mobile phone?
Yes! Most filers can complete their entire tax return on a mobile device. We support importing your W-2 by taking a photo directly from your mobile device.
If you do run into a situation where you’d feel more comfortable working on your tax return on your computer, you can log in to your account on creditkarma.com/tax to pick up where you left off.
What if I have questions while I’m using Credit Karma Tax?

- We are an Authorized IRS e-file Provider, which means we must comply with security, privacy and business standards set by the IRS
- We maintain physical, electronic and procedural safeguards of taxpayer information that comply with applicable law and federal standards
- We have a dedicated on-site security team, plus independent third-parties who regularly assess our site for vulnerabilities
- We require a phone number and text SMS or voice/call verification when using Credit Karma Tax.
- We support Two-Factor Authentication with the Google Authenticator app.
Is Credit Karma Tax really free?
When we say “free,” we don’t mean free trial or free to start. We mean 100% free from start to finish for everyone. Credit Karma Tax is an easy tax solution for both federal and state returns. There’s no income limit and no expiration date.
Is Credit Karma Tax accurate?
We 100% guarantee the accuracy of our calculations. If the IRS and/or applicable state tax authority imposes penalties and/or interest on you due to a Credit Karma Tax calculation error, Credit Karma Tax will reimburse you up to a maximum of $1,000 in the form of gift card(s).
Will I get the refund I deserve?
Credit Karma Tax wants to ensure that we give our members peace of mind. If you receive a larger federal tax refund amount or owe less in federal taxes using the same Tax Return Information (as defined in the IRS Code Section 6103(b)(2)(A)) when filing an amended 2018 federal income tax return through another online tax preparation service, then you may be eligible to receive the difference in the refund or tax amount owed up to $100 (minimum $25) in the form of a gift card from Credit Karma Tax.
