Credit Karma can help make the connection between you and the credit card issuers, but at the end of the day the credit card issuer reviews your credit card application and makes the final decision of whether you are approved for the offer you applied for. Credit Karma cannot know the exact reason why you did not receive a specific bonus.
Here are a couple of reasons why you might not be seeing the sign up or welcome bonus originally advertised on Credit Karma after you’re approved by the lender:
- The bonus terms may have changed or expired since you last looked at the offer. Make sure to review the terms on Credit Karma and the issuer’s ’s site before you apply for any offer.
- If you already have an account with the issuer, your eligibility for the welcome offer or for the new card itself may be impacted. For example, if you are a previous cardholder with issuer A and have received a new cardholder bonus within the last 24 months, you may not be eligible for issuer A’s new card or new cardholder bonus.
- If you’re approved for a card, the bonus offer may require you to meet certain requirements to receive the bonus. For example, you may have to spend a specified dollar amount on purchases in a set time-frame in order to receive the bonus.
Other possible factors are usually explained in the terms and conditions provided by the credit card issuer. You can contact the issuer directly for the specific reasons why you did not qualify for a bonus offer.
